Allergies
Disorders of a person’s defenses (immune system) which produce an exaggerated rejection reaction from the body from absorbing or being in contact with some specific substances, called ANTIGENS (pollen, dust, animal hair, food, medicine, insect bites, etc). When these antigens interact with humoral ANTIBODIES (mainly Immune globulin E) or sensitised LYMPHOCYTES, they release some active substances, such as histamines, eosinophils chemotactic factor (ECF), etc. from cells and from the basophils, causing a dilation of vessels, increasing capillary permeability, contraction of the smooth plain muscle (mainly the bronchial one) and eosinophils.
Principal symptoms: rhinitis (increase in nasal aqueous secretion), conjunctivitis, bronchial spasms (asthma), eczema, oedemas, low blood pressure, itching, etc.
